Spend Your Summer Coaching Sailing at the Jersey Shore
Friends of Belmar Harbor is hiring a Head Coach and Sailing Instructors for summer 2027.

Turn your passion for sailing into a summer of teaching, leadership, and time on the water. The Friends of Belmar Harbor Charitable Education Foundation (FOBH), transitioning to Sail Belmar Community Sailing Center, is seeking motivated, organized, and enthusiastic coaches and instructors to join our 2027 summer staff.
Located on the Shark River in Belmar, New Jersey, our community sailing program offers an opportunity to work with young sailors while enjoying summer at the Jersey Shore. High school and college sailors interested in developing their coaching skills are encouraged to apply, along with experienced instructors ready to take on a leadership role.
Teach, Coach, and Inspire
We are looking for positive role models who can help junior sailors build confidence, develop skills, and discover a lifelong love of sailing. Ideal candidates have experience working with young people ages 8–15 and a strong sailing background, particularly in Optimists, 420s, and 29ers.
Responsibilities may include teaching beginner and developing sailors, leading practices, caring for equipment, and maintaining a safe, welcoming learning environment. Candidates interested in race coaching should be prepared to travel with and manage the Optimist team at local and regional regattas.
Successful staff members bring enthusiasm, patience, and sound judgment to each day. They work well with others and can adapt lessons and activities as weather, enrollment, and equipment needs change.
A Community Built Around Sailing
For more than 20 years, FOBH has helped children discover the enjoyment and challenge of sailing. As a nonprofit community sailing organization, we emphasize safe, responsible boating alongside teamwork, sportsmanship, volunteering, and respect for the environment.
Our programs provide a progression from introductory sailing to more advanced instruction and racing. Coaches help make those transitions possible by encouraging each sailor to learn, participate, and contribute to the waterfront community.
